European Hyperloop Center draws global news coverage

This week marks a significant milestone for the Hyperloop Development Program. The European Hyperloop Center (EHC) has unveiled its infrastructure that is now fully equipped for testing and demonstrating. This is an essential next step for developing hyperloop as a new energy-efficient transport mode.

The activities at the EHC’s Veendam location, in the Netherlands, will be through open innovation. Developers and research institutes from around the world are invited to participate. The unveiling of the newly built testing infrastructure receives international attention from media. Among them, The Guardian, BFM Business and The Washington Post.

The Guardian’s Transport correspondent, Gwyn Topham, mentions that the EHC is Europe’s longest hyperloop test track, which could potentially help Europe’s innovation to keep up with developments in China.

BFM Business, a leading French TV news channel, underscores that the EHC is the only hyperloop testing center that includes a lane switch. The lane switch is a necessity for connectivity between cities and regions in a transport network.

Meanwhile, The Washington Post's Business section mentions technical aspects, including the 34 separate sections that are 2.5 meters (over eight feet) in diameter, as well as the low pressure environment that is needed to reduce air resistance and allows vehicles to travel fast. The article also touches on the phase after testing and demonstrating the technology.

Our partners are set to commence their first tests in the coming weeks. With the pioneering spirit and commitment of the Hyperloop Development Program - that includes hyperloop developers, industry partners and knowledge institutions - the EHC will contribute to the technological convergence of hyperloop technologies.

In addition to the above-mentioned publications, news outlets around the world - including India Times, La Nacion, Le Figaro, Tagesschau and Fox News - also devote attention to the European Hyperloop Center having opened its doors.
